China to construct trans-Burmese oil and gas pipelines

IT IS UNDERSTOOD that China is planning to start construction of twin oil and gas pipelines through Burma in September with the aim of reducing the journey time for crude oil imports from the Middle East and Africa, the China Securities Journal reported recently. 'The pipelines in [Burma] will be built under the name of CNPC but whether CNPC or PetroChina undertakes the construction of the domestic [Chinese] section has not been decided,' the newspaper said, citing an unnamed CNPC official. CNPC, China's largest oil and gas producer, operates most of its domestic businesses via PetroChina.

Enterprise acquiring Teppco in $3.3 billion deal

US OPERATOR Enterprise Products Partners LP is acquiring Teppco Partners LP in an all-stock deal valued at $3.3 billion, forming what the companies have said will be one of the US' largest publicly-traded energy-pipeline partnerships. The acquisition will unite the two closely-linked pipeline operators, which are themselves controlled by a general partnership company owned by Houston billionaire Dan Duncan. Under terms of the deal, Teppco shareholders will receive 1.24 Enterprise shares, valued at $31.36 each, for each of their Teppco shares, representing a 9.3% premium over Teppco's closing price at the end of June. The deal is valued at about $500 million more than the $2.8 billion cash-and-stock deal Enterprise first offered in March, and which was later rejected by Teppco's management as being too low.

New portable, ultrasonic corrosion-monitoring thickness gauges

THE DM5E family is the latest generation of portable, ultrasonic, corrosion-monitoring thickness gauges from GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies. The new range of gauges are designed to offer improvements in performance over previous corrosion-thickness gauges in terms of better thickness measurement stability and repeatability at normal and, especially, at elevated temperatures. The units have been designed for operation in the harshest of working environments, performing wall thickness measurements on pipelines, pressure vessels, and storage tanks in the oil and gas industry, as well as the petrochemical and power generation sectors.
